How we are Putting Safety First for In-Person Summer Camps

The Brick Works Academy team is jumping with excitement that we will be able to host and teach BWA campers in-person this summer season starting July 5th! We are offering 6 in-person camp themes such as Minecraft Computer, Pokemon Design and Animation across 10 locations including Toronto, Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph, Hamilton and London.

As we gear up to host campers this summer the GTA, Brick Works Academy is committed to hosting safe and healthy in-person summer camps to families across Ontario. We are taking all safety precautions to ensure an enjoyable and stress-free environment to put you at ease when sending your children off to camp with us.

**Out of province or don’t want to send your kids to in-person camps just yet? We have you covered with 19 virtual camp themes that are extremely accessible through a laptop or iPad and are available weekly throughout the summer!

Health Canada Building

1. Reduced Camp Size

Camp sizes have been reduced by over 50% and overall camp enrollment capped to ensure small camp cohorts as recommended by Canadian Public Health. This will ensure our ability to facilitate proper traffic flow, cohort-spacing and washroom access throughout the day.  Cohorts of 10 students.

2. Social Distancing and Contactless Protocols

Campers will not be permitted to interact with campers from a different cohort at any time to avoid cross-contact. Activity breaks will be scheduled and staggered from other cohorts. Please note that extended care will not be available as all cohorts need to remain together for the duration of the day. Drop off will occur outside after parents have completed pre-screening and only students and staff who have passed will be permitted into the camp facilities to promote a contactless environment.

3. Health and Safety Coordinators & Cleaning Standards

We have hired health and safety coordinators that will be responsible for regularly disinfecting high-touch surfaces and any tools that are required to facilitate the camp. Please note that while equipment will be cleaned, computers, tablets, and robots will not be shared - each student will have a device to use for their activities! The coordinators will also work closely with each unique facility across the GTA to ensure proper compliance with each individual location and ensure that the Public Health Camp Operations Guideline and checklist are strictly followed.

4. Physical Protocols PPE

Instructors and campers will be required to wear masks while indoors or transitioning to outdoors, except while eating or outside with more 2meter distancing. At each camp facility, hand sanitizer will be available at all times and staff will ensure to establish proper hand washing routines and bathroom schedules with the campers throughout the day, as recommended by Health Canada.

5. Covid-19 Exposure

Each camper will be prescreened for relevant symptoms and/or relevant exposures before being permitted into camp. If Brick Works Academy is notified that a child contracts or are exposed to COVID-19, we will immediately notify the local public health unit and follow their instructions for the next steps, including notifying any possibly affected families.
